“Life is a series of provisional solutions.” - Alois Fritz

In 1956, Sonja’s grandfather began with the construction of Haus Andrea. It has been a labor of love since the first day and amongst the first guest houses in Kleinwalsertal. Modest beginnings, constant improvements and then additions have turned it into the beautiful home we took over in 2020. The many remodels were visible in an eclectic mix of paint and furniture from various decades (which had it’s very own charm!) and the energy efficiency left a few things to wish for. So after two years of running the guest house, in March of 2023 we plunged into an 8 months process of realising Haus Andrea 2.0!

The greenest house is the one that’s never built and we pondered for a long time how to be smart about our resources. We ultimately decided to keep the ground floor we live in and to tear down the top two floors that hold the apartment. The two floors were rebuilt using eco friendly wood construction and insulation, triple pane windows, double roof and in floor heating system. We connected to geothermal heating and brought our apartments to the latest standards in energy efficiency and comfort. Turning the roof 90 degrees offers South facing loggias and solar heating in the winter plus expansive views of the mountains. A new boot room with electric heaters for each guest, space for gear, charging for eBikes and other comforts were added, too. As you walk through the house, you will discover wrought iron lamps and repurposed beams from the original roof.

We can’t wait to share this new space in the same amazing location with you!
